  • COLLECTOR'S PROFILE

Where did you grow up? I was born in Dominica (not to be confused with the Dominican Republic although we are both called Dominicans) in the West Indies.  I came to the U.S. to join my mom, stepfather, and siblings (3 sisters and 1 brother) in Dover, Delaware at 15.  I spent a short time in hig...
  • GREAT READ: WHAT SHOULD FASHION STUDENTS KNOW ABOUT SUSTAINABILITY? by Kam Dhillon at NotJustALabel.com

Over here, we think about ways to better educate future designers as often as we think about having another cup of coffee.  Which is to say: constantly. So we were struck by this incredibly thorough and thought-provoking piece by Kam Dhillon about breaking down the complexities of the fashion su...
  • THE INNOVATIVE NEW TEXTILE THAT FIGHTS OFF VIRUSES AND BACTERIA

Great news for all of you diligent hand-washing, social distancing mask-wearers — now there’s virus protection for your clothes. It’s called Ruco-Bac AGP. And although it sounds like a children’s cough medicine or a Dow Jones trading symbol, it’s actually a huge breakthrough in textile innovatio...
  • INSPIRING COMPANY: DROPEL FABRICS

They say to go fast, go alone; to go far, go together. In that spirit, as we work to rebuild the industry and put the brakes on fast fashion, we are always looking for like-minded makers on a similar path. Recently, we’ve been inspired by Dropel Fabrics, a startup founded by Sim Gulati and Brad...
  • LIVE FROM RADIO KISMET WITH CHRISTOPHER PLANT

I became closer friends with Christopher Plant when I was producing Private School 101 last Spring in the Spring Arts building. Since then, we have had endless conversations about our interaction and attraction with the arts, culture, our fellow humans, and spirituality.

During this quarantine I started a regular practice of meditation which has been the greatest gift. Most of the time is in stillness allowing for the momentum of old thought patterns to calm and the TRUTH  to appear. Some of the thoughts here are still loose but I have a strong feeling that they're leading me to something really cool.

    xoxo Bela

  • APPARATUSES

I made a playlist for you in April and called it APPARATUSES since the list is ministered carefully to tickle some deep spots with its variety of instruments.  When the playlist starts, think about that love, the one that took your breath away and made you weak at the knees. Recall it in detail f...
